Art & Scripture painting #24: Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
Numbers 6:24-26

The Aaronic blessing (also known as the priestly blessing) is one of the most familiar passages in Numbers 5-6. Elevation Worship performed it beautifully and their song inspired many during the difficult days of the pandemic. It was even translated to many other languages.
This is a threefold blessing passed to Moses by God himself. The three sentences with two verbs each are simple and yet so meaningful. It’s said that the first verb in each line presents an action of God upon the worshiper, and the second indicates the results of God’s actions: protection, grace, and peace.
I wanted to display it in my home for a while and I’ll also use this painting as an opportunity to teach my kids the meaning of a blessing and how we can bless one another with our words every day.

Have a wonderful week!
