“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, right at the door.”
Matthew 24:32-33
Trees are present in many ways in the Bible and I’ve decided to do a mini-series inside this series… I’ll be illustrating three different trees from the Bible in the following weeks. Today we’ll look into the fig tree.
Did you know that the fig tree is the third tree mentioned by name in Bible? It comes right after the Tree of life and the Tree of knowledge of good and evil. It is shown in many other passages but in this verse, Jesus is using the fig tree as an example to talk about his second coming. In the same way that we know what to expect in every season, we should learn how to look at the signs and acknowledge that, as surely as seasons come predictably one after the other, he will fulfill each one of his promises, including his return. May we be found ready!
This tree was illustrated with watercolour and golden ink. I would consider it a study for its simplicity because to say things have been busy around here would be an understatement. We are listing our home for sale and we’ll be moving to a new house soon. However, I’ve been challenged to choose the first things first, and I wanted to remain faithful to this project even with the little time I’m having lately.
So, can you guess what tree I’ll be painting next? Have a wonderful week!
